Short answer: Our installs start at $900 for a typical roofline, and that includes the lights, custom cutting, installation, fixes during the season, takedown and storage. You own the lights, so every year after the first costs 60% of the first-year price. Bigger homes with wreaths, trees and ground lighting cost more.

I've put up lights on more than 300 homes around the CSRA, from small ranches in North Augusta to three-story houses in Evans. Here's how the price actually comes together, so you can judge any quote you get, ours included.

What drives the price?

Mostly how many feet of roofline you want lit, and how high it is.

  • Roofline length. Most of a quote is linear feet: the front eave, the gables, sometimes the ridge. A single-story ranch might be 60 to 80 feet across the front. A two-story with several gables can easily pass 150 feet.

  • Height and pitch. Steep, high rooflines take longer and need more safety gear. That's the work you're really paying a pro to do.

  • Extras. Lit wreaths, wrapped trees, bushes and ground lighting along walkways all add to the price. They're also what makes a house stand out from the street.

Every install starts at $900. A simple front roofline on a one-story home lands near that. Bigger homes and more extras cost more, and we give you a few options with prices before you decide.

Why does the first year cost more than the next?

Because the first year includes the lights themselves. Every run is measured and cut to your exact roofline, and the lights are yours to keep. After that we already have your lights, labeled by roofline and stored, so year two is mostly labor. That's why every year after the first is 60% of the first-year price.

Be careful with companies that rent you the lights. The first-year price can look lower, but you pay for the lights again every year and never own them. Ask any company you call: "Do I own these?"

What should be included in the price?

At a minimum, a quote should cover:

  1. A design walk-through. Someone should look at your house before quoting it.

  2. Professional-grade lights, not big-box strings that die by mid-December.

  3. Installation with clips that don't damage your roof. No nails or staples in shingles or gutters.

  4. Service during the season. If a section goes out, we fix it within 48 hours.

  5. Takedown and storage after the holidays.

Ours also come with a lifetime warranty on the lights.

Is it cheaper to do it myself?

On paper, yes. Store lights and clips for a roofline run a few hundred dollars. But you buy them again when they fail, you spend a weekend on a ladder, and you do it all again in January to take them down. The ladder is the real cost: the Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates about 15,000 holiday decorating injuries end up in the ER each season, and falls are the biggest share.

If you have a low, single-story roofline and you're comfortable on a ladder, DIY can make sense. On a two-story, or if you'd rather not, that's what we're for.

When should I book?

Now. Install days fill up from November 1 on, and the earliest bookings get the earliest install dates. Most installs take less than a day, and you don't need to be home. We just need access to an outdoor outlet. Book by October 31 and you get $150 off your install.
